Marvel announced Thor: Love and Thunder at their San Diego Comic-Con panel. It’s going to be the fourth installment in the Thor movie franchise. This one, though, will be switching its protagonist. Instead of Thor (Chris Hemsworth); Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) will be picking up Mjolnir to wield the power of Thor. This may come as a surprise for some because of Jane Foster’s relationship with Thor in Thor: Ragnarok.
In the third film, Thor and Jane split up off-screen. Back in 2016, Portman made a comment to The Wall Street Journal that ” As far as I know, I’m done”. Only Marvel knows the fourth film’s plot and her role in it and they haven’t shed any light on it.
They also did announce director Taiki Waititi will be returning to direct the fourth film. That shouldn’t be surprising because he was the reason why Thor: Ragnarock was critically and financially successful. The third film has a score of 74 on Metacritic, 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and $853,977,126 at the box office.
Thor: Love and Thunder is planned to be released on November 5th, 2021.
