Despite an earlier comment about how they wouldn’t do exclusives, some saw it as a surprise that Rebellion Developments’ Zombie Army 4: Dead War did just that. While console versions will be available, the game on PC will be an Epic Games Store exclusive.
In an interview with GamesIndustry, founder Jason Kingsley explained their decision was purely for business sake. The indie dev also praised Epic Games for “paying through the nose” to grow their storefront.
Generally I think I would prefer not to do exclusives but I understand Epic’s position with it, and quite frankly they are paying through the nose to build their store, all credit to them, it’s fantastic, and we’ll take some of their money, thank you very much.
The expectation to be picked up by Epic Games never even passed through their minds as they go after “super big games”.
I was aware that Epic was doing exclusives, [but] we hadn’t been offered at the time. I didn’t really think they would, because typically they go for the super big [games].
Zombie Army 4: Dead War is coming out sometime in 2020.
