Studio MDHR Lead Dreams of Making a Zelda Game

In an interview with Nintendo Force, the Cuphead creators expressed a desire to make a Zelda game. One of the two brothers, Jared Moldenhauer, in charge of Studio MDHR, which published and developed the dining ware hero claimed it would be a dream come true for them. The head allegedly outlined his vision of an animated entry using the classic and charming MDHR style.

Think of all the expressiveness and life you could bring to the tribes, people, and enemies of a universe that rich [. . .] a sprawling Zelda title brought to life in a doting 2D hand-animated style…Think of all the expressiveness and life you could bring to the tribes, people, and enemies of a universe that rich! And much like Cuphead, we would get to test our design mettle coming up with screen-filling bosses of an entirely different nature. Of course, backgrounds would be completely hand-painted with nothing re-used! The list just goes on and on. It would be an absolute dream come true.

The odds of this ever happening are slim as Nintendo are fairly close to their IPs. Rarely do they allow for third-party developers to have their hands on them. Possibly because of the failure that was the Philips CD-i and their failed Nintendo-property games.

But, with the recent release and success of Cadence of Hyrule which was developed by Brace Yourself Games, that could change. It’s unlikely all developers will get this chance, but Cuphead has been doing well on the Nintendo eShop, so it’s possible Nintendo may be open to the idea of giving Studio MDHR a chance if it was brought up.

The full interview is due out tomorrow, you can subscribe to their magazine here.
