A new studio is on horizons known as Silver Rain Games led by Abubakar Salim. The studio’s goal is to “tell stories that will empower players,” according to Games Industry. This is a noble one, but what makes Silver Rain stand out from the rest? Well, it’s not operated by a developer, rather it’s an actor.
Salim has been around the block of acting, having played in series such as Black Mirror, but in the gaming world, he made a name for himself by voicing the lead protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Origins, Bayek of Siwa. With this realization that he’s played many games as well as played in them and found his way into storytelling through them, he felt it was only natural.
It should be clarified, he doesn’t have direct knowledge of development, which at this point is fine, but what he does have is time spent at Ubisoft with motion capturing and observing the developers. He isn’t blind to his limitations, though. He knows it takes a lot to make games especially ones that “tell cool stories and have innovative gameplay.”
“That’s what I’m doing at the moment. I’m opening a studio where I want to make games that tell cool stories and have innovative gameplay, but I know I can’t do that by myself. I need a team of people who know what they’re doing, and who are as passionate as I am about making games.”
Is Anyone Else Part Of Silver Rain Games?
Lucky for Salim, he does have a companion on this journey in the way of Melissa Phillips. Formerly a game programmer for BAFTA, she’s going to jump on this journey to aid in build-up fresh voices in the industry to help them establish themselves. She will also be tasked to “translate what he [Salim] says into a game we can make.”
As of right now, their team of about five all work remotely at different paces. It isn’t clear what platform Silver Rain Games will be developing on.
