Grab your Plumbuses and your Portal Guns, because the duo is coming back to Adult Swim later this year!
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, there’s a decent chance you have heard of Rick and Morty. The series, created by Justin Roiland and Community Veteran Dan Harmon, began life in 2006 as an animated short made by Roiland, in which he parodied the Back To The Future characters Doc Brown and Marty McFly. The series as we know it today, started in 2013 when Roiland and Harmon were approached by Adult Swim for ideas for a new show. It was then that the two created the series that we all know and love today.
It’s safe to say that Rick and Morty is one of – if not the – most successful Adult Swim show. The series has received universal recognition and has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It is also notable for being one of the few Adult Swim shows to be popular outside of America, where Adult Swim primarily broadcasts.
So When Does Season 4 Release?
According to a video posted to the official Adult Swim YouTube channel, we can expect to see Rick and Morty Season 4 sometime in late November of this year. There are a few possible reasons for the long hiatus between seasons. The most likely answer, however, lies in the fans’ dedication to the show and its jokes.
Could Fans Be To Blame For The Late Release Date?
In the opening of Season 3 of Rick and Morty, Rick finds himself trapped inside of his own mind along with an alien interrogator. While reliving old memories, Rick decides to travel back to the late 90’s due to there being a special McDonald’s promotion for the Film Mulan. Namely a special dip called “Szechuan Sauce” that he wants to try for one last time. At the closing of this episode, Rick, having found himself back in the company of Morty, proceeds to rant about his need for Szechuan Sauce and how it is now his life’s mission to acquire more of it.
What does this have to do with the fans you ask? Well in late 2017 in response to the popular show, McDonald’s brought the infamous sauce back for a limited one-day event in their American restaurants. While on paper this sounds like marketing gold, the reality was much more chaotic.
Fans of Rick and Morty swarmed McDonald’s across the country to get their taste of the sauce, but Mcdonald’s seemingly miscalculated just how popular the sauce would be, with only a limited quantity of the sauce being put in circulation, supplies ran out within hours and customers were not happy.
In Conclusion
For now, nothing is known about what the fourth season will entail for Rick and Morty, but with the talented team of writers at the shows head, its unlikely we’ll be disappointed by whats to come.
