RAGE 2 Not Coming To Nintendo Switch

The Apocalypse Is Passing Nintendo Switch By For Now

Given Bethesda and Nintendo’s history in recent years you’d be forgiven for thinking that RAGE 2 would find its way onto the Nintendo Switch. Bethesda has previously added their back catalogue of stylized RPGs and Shooters to the console. Bringing titles such as Skyrim, DOOM, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and their upcoming sequels DOOM Eternal and Wolfenstein: Youngblood to the handheld-console hybrid.

But, comments by id Software and Avalanche make it pretty clear that RAGE 2 won’t be on the Switch for a while yet.

Speaking to Dualshockers, both the publisher and developer cite technical challenges as the reason for them holding back RAGE 2 on the Switch. But, also mention ‘other challenges’ and thanks to more recent news, we may know what this could be.

Could Rumors Of A New Nintendo Console Hint At A Possible Release?

With the first RAGE starting life as a tech demo that pushed the limits of what the consoles at the time were capable of. It stands to reason that Bethesda has built RAGE 2 from the ground up with features that take full advantage of Sony and Microsofts updated consoles: The PS4 Pro and Xbox One S. If so, this could be the reason as to why they are staying coy about the game coming to the Nintendo Switch.

A recent article by the Wall Street Journal seems to suggest that Nintendo is aiming to release two new versions of the Nintendo Switch.  One of which would greatly improve the Switch’s capabilities although no concrete details about its specifications at this time, it is supposedly targeted at “avid gamers”.

This being the case, Bethesda and Nintendo could be aiming to release RAGE 2 alongside this updated console,  most likely to show what this new,  more powerful version of the Nintendo Switch is capable of. Indeed with RAGE 2 having a unique neon filled color palette, it could be the ideal marketing tool to attract console gamers who have held out on buying a Switch until now.

In the meantime, you can watch the recent trailer from yesterday:

Only time will tell whether any of these rumours and theories turn out to be true. But in the meantime, you’ll be able to pick up RAGE 2 when it comes to the PS4, Xbox One and PC on April 14th.

Are you excited for RAGE 2 and what it could mean for the Nintendo Switch? Let us know in the comments!
