Despite not appearing at Gamescom this year, the team behind the latest Pokémon game has been hard at work on Sword and Shield. Not wanting us to feel left out, Game Freak director Shigeru Ohmori has given us a guided tour through one of the Galar Region’s many towns. Come with us as we take a look at the newly revealed features!

1. A Quaint Little Town

With the Galar region being modeled after the UK, fans already expected that there’d be a load of beautiful countryside spots to traverse through. And, in fact, the locale revealed in the trailer shows this. The town has a pleasant, rustic design and plenty of green, lush fields surrounding it.

2. A New Way to Travel?

During our tour of the village, we get to see the return of an older mechanic from previous Pokémon games: trains. Older Pokémon Trainers like myself will remember using the train back in the days of Pokémon Gold and Silver to transport yourself between the Johto and Kanto Regions after you’d finished the main story.

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, however, the trains function a bit differently. They most likely allow players to travel between the towns – something that may get tedious if you’ve already caught that area’s Pokémon. Let’s just hope that unlike the UK the price for a ticket isn’t astronomical.

3. It’s Time For Some New Threads!

If you’ve played any of the Pokémon games from the last few generations, you’ll know that you’ve been able to customize your trainer’s appearance for a while now. However, the choices have always been fairly limited to only a few options.

But with Sword and Shield having a number of Boutiques spread around its map (as well as the extra computing power of the Switch), we may be seeing our trainer donning some more stylish apparel this time around.

Perhaps we’ll even get some wooly jumpers if the Wooloo in the foreground above are any indication.

4. Some Familiar Favourites Also Make Their Return

While we saw some new and exciting features in this latest trailer, we also got confirmation that Pokémon Centres and the Pokémon Lab would be returning once again for this installment of the Pokémon series.

It also looks like Game Freak is going back to packing the Pokémon Center and Pokémart into one building. This is most likely to save space for other buildings and scenery within the Galar region’s sprawling townscapes.

Unfortunately, that’s everything from the latest peek into the world of Pokémon Sword and Shield.
