Now that we’re less than a month away from Pokémon Sword and Shield‘s release, Nintendo is pulling out all the stops to maintain hype for the game and to convince people to preorder the game. In a trailer released earlier today, Nintendo has focused on Gigantamaxing, a special variant of the Dynamax power-up that boosts certain Pokémon to whole new levels!

Gigantamaxing: It’s Pretty Cool, But When We Gonna Get That Planet Busting Wailord?

In the trailer we see a variety of Gen 1 Pokémon get a pretty intense makeover, so without further ado, we’ll be breaking each one down to see just what benefits you get from this new power.

Giant Pikachu: Only 90s Kids Will Remember Him

In the ultimate nostalgic movie, Nintendo has brought back the original design for Pikachu as its Gigantamax Form. But it’s not just cool throwbacks that Pikachu has stored in its fuzzy cheeks. Pikachu’s old/new look also gives it a new move “G-Max Volt Crash”. This new move functions similarly to one of Pikachu’s regular moves Volt Tackle the main difference being that as well as dealing increased attack damage, the move is now guaranteed to leave every opponent in the battle with the paralyzed status effect (assuming they aren’t either rock or ground type). You’ll especially want this if you’re going up against another Gigantamaxed Pokémon so you can avoid some of the brutal hits they can dish out.

However, if you want to add the enormous electric mouse to your team, you’ll need save data from Let’s Go Pikachu on your Nintendo Switch.

Gigantamax Eevee: It’s Not Quite A New Eeeveelution, But It Is Pretty Cute

It might not be quite what fans were hoping for, but Gigantamax Eevee is undeniably a showstopper, its adorable design is matched only by its impressive new move. “G-Max Cuddle”  is this fluffball’s secret weapon, and it seems to function similarly to the “Attract” move. This new move will infatuate any opposite gendered Pokémon on the opponent’s team, meaning that there’s a chance they won’t be able to attack each time it comes round to their turn. This could be a good move to use tactically if you want to keep your opponent’s strongest monster Pocket Monsters at bay.

Similarly to Gigantmax Pikachu, Eevee is only obtainable if you have save data from Let’s Go Eevee.

Gigantamax Charizard: A Third Form?! What Is This Dragonball Z?

Looking like something out of your childhood nightmares (or dreams, we don’t judge), Gigantamax Charizard is earning back its status as a dragon, even if its typing disagrees most of the time. But its smoldering flames are just the beginning.

Like the other Gigantamax Pokémon, Charizard boasts its own super-powered move, “G-Max Wildfire”. After unleashing the devastating flame attack, Charizard’s unwilling victims will continue to take fire damage for four turns afterward, making this a great move to whittle down those stronger opponents.

Gigantamax Butterfree: We’ve Had Godzilla Charizard, Now Its Time For Mothra Butterfree

When you think bugs, you don’t usually think cute, but you can’t deny that Gigantamax Butterfree is one beautiful Kaiju sized Lepidoptera. As well as looking Gorgeous, Gigantamax Butterfree also has “G-Max Befuddle” This, unlike the other new moves we’ve seen so far, doesn’t do any damage with its initial attack. Instead, the move hits your opponents with one of three status effects: Sleep, Paralysis or Poison. Again, this is another good move for dealing with more powerful Gigantmax Pokémon, but you will have to rely on luck of the draw when it comes to which status effect you’ll get.

Unlike Pikachu, and Eevee, you’ll be able to encounter both Gigantamax Buttefree and Charizard in Dynamax battles as you explore the Galar Regions wild zone, but given their incredible power, it’s safe to say they’ll be less common than your standard Dynamaxed Pokémon.

Last and Longest, Its Gigantamax Meowth

Taking over from where Alolan Eggexecutor left off, Gigantamax Meowth towers over its competition, you can tell its big when even the clouds are below it. But, it’s not just size that Meowth brings to the battlefield, it also has its G-Max move G-Max Gold Rush.

Literally groundbreaking, this new move not only confuses all of your opponents Pokémon, but it also retains the ability of Meowth’s signature move, Payday, increasing the money you get from battles. If you have Gigantamax Meowth on your side, you certainly won’t have any trouble buying up new outfits for your trainer. However, if you want to get your paws on Gigantamax Meowth you’d better be quick, because the Pokémon is only available as an early purchase bonus until January 15.
