This year’s Pokémon Press Conference was a whirlwind of languages and sleeping Snorlax. Announcements included new releases, new goals, and new projects to watch out for. Here are the major bits you missed!

1. A new Detective Pikachu release

Following its movie adapation’s success in the box office, the 3DS’ Detective Pikachu title now has plans for a sequel. Hopefully, the upcoming release will provide closure for the cliffhanger ending that left fans all around the world frustrated.  But don’t get things mixed up. The game sequel won’t have anything to do with the movie.

Detective Pikachu 2 is currently under development. As of the date of this article’s writing, no release dates have been confirmed.

2. Pokémon Sleep

Sorry, had to make sure it was real. That’s right. One of The Pokémon Company’s latest projects entails, in their words, “turning sleep into entertainment“. The new app, called Pokémon Sleep, would track a player’s sleep and use that same information in their gameplay. Possible features may include tracking how long the user sleeps for and what time of day they wake up. To be honest, the ordeal comes off as them trying to push some sort of healthy habit agenda. Or, at the very least, the may just be riding off the VR hype train Pokémon Go unleashed.

Pokémon Sleep is currently under development and is set to be released to the public in 2020.

3. Pokémon Go Plus Plus

The Pokémon Go Plus+ is the successor of the Pokémon Go Plus, having all of its regular features in addition to being able to track the player’s sleep using an integrated accelometry, much like Pokémon Sleep. In fact, the device will be compatible with the app. Nothing else has been revealed just yet.

Given the extensive number of names the company has to make on a regular basis, we should let this one slide. But you can’t say you didn’t do a double take.

The Pokémon Go Plus+ is currently in development. No release dates have been publicized by The Pokémon Company.

4. Pokémon Home

Cloud storage really is making a hit everywhere. Pokémon Home, The Pokémon Company’s newest project, jumps on this trend. It is the successor of the 3DS’ Pokémon Bank, and this time, it is allowing players to transfer Pokemon between both local and international devices. Pokemon grows to become more of a global phenomenon each day.

The visual from the conference- shown above- seems to imply that Pokémon will be transferrable from the newer generations from games (i.e. Pokémon Go and the games for the Switch). If Pokémon continues along this path, we may soon be able to play as the same character across multiple regions!

Pokémon Home is currently slated for release in early 2020. As of now, no news has been disclosed regarding possible fees for the service.

6. Pokémon Masters

Another Pokémon game is coming to grace our mobile screens. Pokémon Masters will feature well-beloved trainers from the main series RPGs and their signature Pokémon. Gameplay will be centered around competition in 3v3 battles.

Pokémon Masters is set to be released later this year for Android and IOS. Stay tuned for updates!

7. Pokémon Quest China

Prior to Generation VII, there weren’t all that many Pokémon games with official Chinese translations. Now, in collaboration with NetEase, it seems The Pokémon Company is making amends for this. China is getting an upgraded version of the regular Pokémon Quest game, complete with social features and PvP gameplay.

Pokémon Quest China is currently under development. As of now, no release dates have been confirmed by The Pokémon Company.
