With the incoming release of Team Sonic Racing and the Sonic the Hedgehog film, it’s not too much of a surprise that Sonic Team is working to create the next mainline Sonic game. As announced during SXSW 2019, Sega’s vice president of product development, Takashi Iizuka, answered a fan’s question of whether they’re working on another Sonic game.

He simply explained the next game is in-development, but didn’t disclose any information about the game such as its release window, title or platforms it will release on. But, one of the last entries to the Sonic franchise being the generally enjoyed Sonic Mania, fans are hoping they will keep to that area.

The next game to be releasing is Team Sonic Racing next month on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC.

The Sonic the Hedgehog film has drawn in criticism over its depiction of Sonic. Even the creator of the iconic blue hedgehog didn’t seem pleased with the style.
