New Project Coming From Devil May Cry 5 Director Hideaki Itsuno?

Is It DMC 6? Dragon’s Dogma, Or Perhaps Something Else?

Hideaki Itsuno has been the main Director behind the Devil May Cry series since DMC 2 where he was brought on late in the game’s development cycle as the replacement director. But, could a new tweet from him be a hint towards his next project?

So, What Could This New Project Be?

Itsuno has had a long career in-game development, starting out in 1994 with a planning role on the arcade game Quiz and Dragons and going on from there to work on titles such as Street Fighter Alpha, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Darkstalkers and Resident Evil Outbreak and its sequel, before being handed the reigns to the Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma series.

From his history in game’s development we can narrow down the possibilities for what this new project could be.

It’s unlikely that Itsuno would make a return to the Street Fighter or Resident Evil series as he hasn’t worked on either for extended periods of time. In fact the only projects Hideaki has worked on for the last fourteen years has been the DMC and Dragons dogma franchises.

Now, given that Devil May Cry 5 has just released, its possible that Itsuno and his team are working on DLC for the game after its successful release last month. And as we reported earlier this month, Hideaki did state that there was a chance of more DLC coming to the game if fans really wanted it.

However it’s also unlikely that the team would start work on the next entry in the DMC series, as after the release of Devil May Cry 4, and the reboot DMC, Itsuno worked on other projects such as Dragon’s Dogma and Project X Zone before working on DMC 5.

Could We Be Looking At a Sequel?

It’s possible that this could be a sign that Itsuno and his team have begun work on the next entry in the Dragon’s Dogma franchise. Early last month in an interview with Eurogamer, Hideaki said that while Dragon’s Dogma was the most challenging game he had worked on, he would love to create the sequel. It’s also interesting to note that this would fit into the timeline of Itsuno’s other games releases as he’s released new games in the Devil May Cry series every 5-6 years since DMC 3. With the last update to Dragon’s Dogma being released in 2013, it wouldn’t be out of the question for us to see a 2021 release date for the sequel.

All we can say for certain at the moment is that given Hideaki’s track record, whatever project he works on next is sure to feature the same style and flair we’ve come to expect from his games. Even if we might have to wait a while to see it in action.
