Chinese internet tech firm, NetEase looks to have its eyes on Quantic Dream. According to reliable industry insider, Tom Henderson, what started as a minority stake ownership back in 2019 is on track to become a full-fledged purchase.

The talks are, of course, under wraps and the entire thing is one big anonymous source story, but with Henderson’s track record, it wouldn’t be too off-the-wall for this to be the case. It’s also alleged Quantic Dream has been setting its sights on getting acquired ever since 2018 when their Sony deal expired.

Whether or not they have tried to reach out to major players is not known, but it’s possible that any potential buyers were dissuaded thanks to the “toxic” culture and sexual harassment allegations levied at the studio. Not all buyers care provided they have a massive name — case in point, Activision-Blizzard — and with a story-driven repertoire like Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human under their belt, they could be a valuable asset to any gaming company.

Meanwhile NetEase is far from a newbie in the acquisition game. Late last year, the company took it upon themselves to acquire No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw dev, Grasshopper Manufacturer.
