Naughty Dog shutting down servers

Naughty Dog to Shut PS3 The Last of Us and Uncharted Servers Offline

It’s the end of an era. Naughty Dog, the game developer behind iconic series like The Last of Us and Uncharted, have announced that the games’ PS3 servers are to be shut down. Amongst other Naughty Dog games on the console, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, The Last of Us, and The Last of Us: Left Behind will lose their multiplayer servers. Forever.

While the move has been long in the running- the servers have been operating for 10 years- it is a very bittersweet moment for Naughty Dog. Here’s what the company released in their official statement:

We’ve been honored to support the passionate communities that have grown around them for almost a decade. We have so many fond memories from playing alongside you throughout the years.

The company isn’t letting the servers go without a last hurrah, however. Being courteous to both new and old players alike, they want to give the games a proper send-off all. All multiplayer services are to remain intact until their official closing on September 3, 5:00 PM PST. In a testament to the game devs’ generosity throughout the years, multiplayer DLC for Uncharted 3, Uncharted 3, and The Last of Us has been made free.

Multiplayer DLC bundles or the three games are now available on the PlayStation Store. The bundles include all gameplay and vanity items. If you haven’t been too active in the multiplayer circuit, now’s your chance.

On that same line of thought, this may be an ode to upcoming title The Last of Us 2. Well, we say upcoming, but not much news has been released since E3 last year. That being said, stay tuned for more updates.
