More and more of Disney’s properties have found themselves getting a live-action adaptation, it was only a matter of time for this one. According to an article from Hollywood Reporter, Disney is in the works to create a live-action remake of the 2002 animated film; Lilo & Stitch. The film was rather popular upon its release, garnering upwards of more than $230 million in the box office with a budget of around $80 million.

The story behind the film is that a little girl in Hawaii – Lilo – finds herself with an alien pet – Stitch – after going to get a pet. Stitch, however, was genetically engineered by a mad, alien genius to cause destruction in his wake . . . and also steal peoples’ left shoe. However, with the help of ohana, children stories, and the music of Elvis Presley, Stitch found there was more to life than just destruction.

The film will be produced by Dan Lin who also is working with Disney to produce the live-action version of Aladdin. It’ll also feature Ryan Halprin, co-producer of movies such as The Batman Lego Movie, The Lego Ninjago Movie, Netflix’s Death Note film, and more, as the co-producer.

The report indicates that the film will use both live-action and CG elements. One feature that has yet to be touched on, however, is the platform. Disney is coming closer and closer to releasing their streaming service, set to launch sometime in 2019. A success story like the Hawaii-themed Lilo & Stitch would make a fairly good boosting point. But, as of now, it’s still unknown as to whether you will just have to drive to the cinema or pay a subscription to a service to see the film.
