While fans bemoaned the exclusion of the iconic Qudditch game (the one that transcended the books and movies and into the real world) in the highly-praised Hogwarts Legacy, it appears this is the reason behind the exclusion, at least to the speculation-minded people. While it’s poised to be have live service elements, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, which lets you hop onto your broomstick and play the Wizarding World’s favorite sport will introduce a physical edition post-launch.
Quidditch Champions gives all pre-orders a speculative wealth of cosmetics tied to the four Houses of Hogwarts, which includes an away team uniform, broom skin, House emblem, and the Firebolt Supreme Broomstick skin. Digitally, the game will launch September 3 across current-gen and past-gen consoles. Physically, it’s gonna drop sometime in November to the home consoles, its Switch version is expected to get a physical release, too, but that hasn’t been dated.
Players can play the sport in a solo career mode, exhibition matches, or with your friends with up to three players. Additionally, it’s omitting the controversial microtransactions system, at least at launch, but it’s all-too possible that Wanrer Bros. Games may push Unbroken Studios to add it in a post-launch patch.
Without release, it’s already garnered some criticism due to its affiliation with JK Rowling, the creator of Harry Potter and the Wizarding World as a whole, due to her perceived transphobic statements. That said, if it’s a good game, that won’t hinder its sales; it didn’t for Hogwarts Legacy, but that was a complete game and one filled to the brim with stuff people have never seen before — an open world Harry Potter game where you could play as the main character.
