George R.R. Martin can Unleash his “Creativity” in Elden Ring

Following the announcement of Elden Ring earlier this month, quite has come forward. For one, it’s now knowledge to the fans that the style will relate to Dark Souls rather than Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Secondly, one of the recent announcements explains that George R.R. Martin has full storytelling control.

In an interview with IGN, FromSoftware president, Hidetaka Miyazaki, explained they have given George R.R. Martin control.

Storytelling in video games – at least the way we do it at FromSoftware – comes with a lot of restrictions for the writer. I didn’t think it was a good idea to have Martin write within those restrictions.

Miyazaki continued:

By having him write about a time the player isn’t directly involved in, he is free to unleash his creativity in the way he likes. Furthermore, as FromSoftware we didn’t want to create a more linear and story-driven experience for Elden Ring. Both issues could be solved by having Martin write about the world’s history instead.

FromSoftware is massively known for their work on notoriously difficult games such as Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and recently, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

George R.R. Martin is an author best known for his novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Some may better know the TV adaptation by HBO, Game of Thrones.

No information has come out further about the release date of Elden Ring.
