Geodude Is Now Iwate’s Tourism Ambassador

Give Geodude a hand as it’s now the official tourism ambassador for the Iwate Prefecture in Japan. The gen one rock-ground type Pokémon wasn’t chosen out of random, but rather due to its design. Iwate, when written in kenji, translates to “rock” and “hand”. Geodude, as you can clearly see is nothing but a rock with arms making it nothing short of perfect.

The mascot version, though, cannot float, but that wasn’t expected by any party. The Pokémon Company opted to add gray and white checkered legs like that of a transparent image on a computer.

Much like any other Pokémon-tied mascot, Geodude has his own theme song that you can listen to on YouTube.
