Meet The Newest (And Cutest) Addition To Pokémon Shield

Galarian Ponyta Trots Into The spotlight!

With Pokémon Sword and Shield only a month away, you might think that Nintendo would be all out of surprises. But the developers had one last trick up their sleeve and its an adorable one!

Initially teased during a 24-hour livestream that ran through October 4th and 5th, Galarian Ponyta has captured the hearts of Pokemon Trainers everywhere.

Dubbed the “Unique Horn” Pokemon, Galarian Ponyta is a pastel-colored beauty with a unique special ability called Pastel Veil.

Pastel Veil is a brand-new ability seemingly exclusive to Ponyta that has the ability to completely negate the toxifying effects of Poison attacks when they’re aimed at the colorful horse pokemon. Galarian Ponyta you capture for your team may also have the ability Run Away instead, which allows you quickly escape wild encounters.

Despite its whimsical appearance, Galarian Ponyta is not a Fairy type Pokémon like fans initially suspected, instead it has been revealed to be a psychic type Pokémon, leaving some trainers understandably disappointed.

Although we haven’t yet seen the evolved form of Galarian Ponyta; Rapidash, we do have confirmation that it will be included in the game thanks to a soundbyte overheard during the 24-hour livestream. The Pokémon cry matches that of Rapidash and given that the evolutions of Galarian Zigzagoon have also received Galarian forms, it makes sense that Ponyta’s evolution would receive a makeover also.

However, if you want to obtain your very own Galarian Ponyta you’ll need to have a copy of Pokemon Shield, as the psychic unicorn won’t be obtainable in the wild in Pokémon Sword. This is probably since you can only obtain a Sirfetch’d in Pokémon Sword.

As shown in the livestream, you’re most likely to encounter Galarian Ponyta in an area known as the Glimwood Tangle.
