On August 23, 2019, at the D23 Expo, Ewan McGregor confirmed the rumors and announced he would be stepping back into his beloved Star Wars role as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Disney confirmed originally they had hoped to do a spin-off film, but with recent spin-offs not performing as well as they’d hoped, decided to go in a different direction.

After The Mandalorian was such a huge success, the director of the series, Deborah Chow, has taken on the untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Upon the announcement, there was no release date said, only that the crew planned to start filming in 2020. It has now been confirmed by McGregor that the filming for his series was postponed until early 2021. However, he did say he thought the release of the series should be unaffected even with this delay.

Star Wars fans have many questions and high expectations for the show, but now we will just have to keep waiting until more on the series is ready to be shared. The official Star Wars website did give fans a little more information by saying the new series will take place eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, where we last saw Obi-Wan delivering the infant Luke Skywalker to his Tatooine homestead.

Obi-Wan will return to us on screen through the Disney+ streaming service sometime in the near future.
