By 2020, iTunes may cease to exist, iPhones will be old news, and iPads may replace your MacBook.

It’s no secret that Apple has been at the forefront of technological development over the past few decades. Now, it seems the company is going in a new direction.

Apple is diverting attention from the iconic iPhone line and pushing more into the development of the iPad and Apple Watch as independent devices. This would also mean that they may be conceptualizing an entirely new line of products at this very moment.

This year’s WWDC will also show the revelation of the new apps for the macOS desktop – with separate apps for music and podcasts having the potential to replace iTunes in its entirety. The plan may seem ambitious, especially considering the many functionalities of the iTunes app, but users need not fret. The music app will cover the mechanisms left behind, such as backups and OS updates. The difference mainly lies in the interface; revamped for the audience approaching 2020.

While many may consider the move being motivated by revenue, the timing is appropriate. In fact, they like to say they aren’t in it for the money. Apple CEO, Tim Cook, often reiterates the same phrase in an ode to Apple’s critique against most of its competitors. In his words: humanity is “being drained out of the music.”

Other announcements are expected to cover app additions to the Apple Watch, security and privacy issues, the latest release in the MacBook Pro family (finally), an iOS dark mode, and more details on Marzipan. Yes, Marzipan – the internal name for a project set to unify app accessibility across macOS and iOS devices.

With the WWDC conference inching closer and closer, there’s a whole lot of reason to be hyped. Stay posted. The future is coming.
